New Genuine Student Requirements

The Genuine Student (GS) requirement, introduced by the Department of Home Affairs, aims to assess an applicant’s genuine intentions for studying in Australia. As part of this requirement, applicants must respond to a set of questions in the online visa application form and provide supporting documents.

The GS test questions include:

  • Details of current circumstances, including ties to family, community, employment, and economic circumstances.
  • Explanation of why the chosen course and education provider were selected, along with an understanding of the course requirements and living in Australia.
  • Description of how completing the course will benefit the applicant.
  • Inclusion of any other relevant information, with responses limited to 150 words per question.

Additionally, applicants who have previously held a student visa or are applying from a non-student visa within Australia are required to answer an additional question. Supporting documents such as academic transcripts, employment proof, and relevant qualifications must be provided to substantiate the responses.

The Department of Home Affairs will consider various factors, including the applicant’s circumstances in their home country, potential circumstances in Australia, the value of the course to the applicant’s future, immigration history, and any other relevant matters. For minors, the intentions of a parent, legal guardian, or spouse are also considered.

Our team of experts guides applicants through the GS test requirements, ensuring thorough preparation and submission of accurate and compelling responses and supporting documents.
